Yesterday, I spent an afternoon with X-23/Laura Kinney from Marvel’s X-Men, or rather Tiny Tigress Cosplay in the guise of X-23. Having never shot cosplay photography before, I had a look online for examples. After browsing for a while, I realised that I didn’t want to create pictures that looked like frames from a graphic novel or stills from a superhero movie. While I felt it was important that there was at least a nod in the direction of those styles, I really wanted to avoid over-styling and shoot photos that looked like the kind of portraits or fashion shots I would usually take, but where the model happened to also be a fabulous mutant with adamantium claws erupting from between her knuckles.
